Former First Lady Michelle Obama, a proponent of good food who left her mark on the White House by, among other things, planting a garden, brought fast-casual greek food from Souvla on her recent flight from SF to DC. It’s true. Read the letter.
It’s not clear what brought Obama to town this time — she was a keynote speaker at Salesforce conference Dreamforce last month — but on her flight home, she and her team enjoyed “pretty much everything on the menu” from Souvla, a representative for the restaurant tells Eater SF.
We’ve been so fortunate to have served so many incredible people over the years. To receive a call from @michelleobama’s team requesting Souvla for a recent trip to DC was the ultimate honor for our team. We were so grateful for this opportunity, and humbled by her letter to us. pic.twitter.com/nwSXlfLztt

A letter acknowledging the meal, which made the “long flight home so much more enjoyable,” was a point of pride for Souvla founder and CEO Charles Bililies, who posted it to his own Instagram.
Michelle Obama isn’t alone in her enthusiasm for Souvla. It was also Lyft’s top drop-off destination in the country, as the ride-hailing business reported this month.
But for future flights out of SFO, Obama and others might consider Eater SF’s guide to dining at the airport. That’s about to be upended, however, by a huge new venture next year coming to the International Terminal from Tartine, Kin Khao, and Cala called Manufactory Food Hall.
