It’s called Dosa by DOSA and it’s ready next week

11-time Michelin Bib Gourmand list-maker DOSA is branching out across the Bay, opening an all-day counter-service restaurant and bar in Uptown Oakland. That offering, called Dosa by DOSA, opens next Thursday, December 14, at 2301 Broadway. It’s one in a complex of converted brick industrial buildings near the 19th Street BART station that houses food tenants like Firebrand Artisan Breads and the beer garden Drake’s Dealership.

DOSA owners Anjan and Emily Mitra opened their first restaurant on Valencia Street in 2006, adding the more capacious Fillmore Street DOSA in 2008. To oversee them both, the Mitras recently installed a new executive chef, Arun Gupta, who arrived this summer from NYC after experience at Gramercy Tavern.

With Gupta running the kitchens, the Mitras turned their attention to the new project, Dosa by DOSA. There, they’ll serve everything from egg and cheese dosas and masala chai for the breakfast crowd to chicken tikka masala and cocktails at dinner. With a full liquor license, bar manager Nora Furst (Lolinda, Uma Casa) will mix spice-focused drinks like hibiscus coolers and old fashioneds with brown mustard bitters.

The 3,600 square foot, 112-seat Dosa by DOSA space was designed by Feldman Architecture with interiors by Anna Molina of a2m design. Customers order at the bar, and dosas arrive from a grill at the the center of the space. Outside the restaurant are another 18 seats facing Broadway. Stay tuned for a look inside: When Dosa by DOSA opens next week, daily breakfast will be from 8 to 11 a.m., with lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
