Dogpatch won’t have to wait much longer: Glena’s Tacos and Margaritas, the taco shop from chef Mike Gaines (Kin Khao) and General Manager Stephanie Gaines (Plow) has passed its final health inspections and is ready to roll. The crew is preparing to unfurl its tortillas for lunch this Wednesday, February 15, just off Third Street at 632 20th Street.
While this is Gaines’ first solo project, he’s spent time in the kitchens of Manresa and Central Kitchen, and was the opening chef at Kin Khao; his right-hand man from Kin Khao, Narciso Salvador, will act as kitchen manager at Glena’s.
To start the restaurant will open only for lunch, while its liquor license completes the transfer. Then, it’ll be open for lunch and dinner, with a full menu of cocktails, beer, and wine. It’s a simple menu, focused on tacos and platos like a fried chicken torta with chipotle mayo, lettuce, red onion, escabeche, cotija cheese, and black beans. For the vegetarians out there, a Hodo Soy tofu taco with avocado, grilled onions, beans, and queso fresco sounds like a winner. Check out the full menu below.
Designed by Wylie Price (The Progress, Ramen Shop), the small shop is a cozy 500-square-foot space, formerly home to Mexican/Salvadorean restaurant The New Spot. Stay tuned for photos and more details.
Lunch will run Monday-Friday from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m.; when dinner arrives, the restaurant will open seven days a week from 11 a.m.- 11 p.m.
