Since two-year-old Benjamin Cooper has firmly established itself as an essential San Francisco bar, it makes sense that anything owners Mo Hodges and Brian Felley do is highly anticipated. So, get excited for The Douglas Room, another hotel cocktail bar from the duo that opens tonight in the newly-rebranded Tilden Hotel (345 Taylor St.).
Hodges and Felley created the drink menu — in full below — and brought on Michael Carlisi and Keith Bracewell (Rx) to execute it. Drinks include the La Di Da Di (vodka, grapefruit cordial, lime, ginger beer, and black lava salt in a metal mug) and Old and In the Way (bourbon, PX sherry, suze, and stone fruit shrub in a Sazerac style).
Beyond a larger drink menu, there’s also much more food than at Benjamin Cooper. Chefs Glen Schwartz (Campton Place, 398 Brasserie) and Tim Malloy (Local’s Corner) put together a creative American dishes, such as lamb tartare pie, sweetbread nuggets with Ancho Reyes barbecue sauce, and duck wings, with bar standbys like a burger and roast chicken as options, too.
There’s a similar hidden feel to the new space as at Benjamin Cooper, though with about double the seats. The Douglas Room soft opens tonight at 5 p.m., and will be open daily from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., with the kitchen open until 1 a.m.
