Sláinte (pronounced slon-cha) is opening its doors tomorrow, bringing a homey Irish hangout to Jack London Square. It’s a traditional pub scene, from Irish-born chef Jackie Gallanagh and partner Jenny Schwarz (also partner and beverage director at Hopscotch). Gallanagh will bringing her family and friends’ recipes to Oakland, while Schwarz will put together the beverages, which will obviously include a range of Irish beers and whiskies.
The menu is traditional, and thoroughly Irish. Irish pork sausages, rashers, and black and white pudding will all be present and accounted for, incorporated into Irish breakfast that is served all day. Fish and chips, sheperd’s pie, and soda bread are all featured; those in-the-know will enjoy 99, an Irish soft serve ice cream novelty topped with a chocolate flake stick.

Gallanagh, who is “Irish by birth, Oaklandish by choice,” hopes to create an Irish community in her chosen home of Oakland. Pints, darts, Irish (and Oakland) sports teams on the televisions, and lively conversations over pints by the fireplace.
For the rest of April, stop by Tuesday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. – Midnight; Friday – Sunday 12:00 p.m. – Midnight (closed Monday). In May, the pub will open daily from 10:00 a.m. – Midnight
