ZeroFoodprint’s Earth Day Campaign is a Delicious Way To Neutralize Some Carbon Emissions

After a successful campaign in 2016, the folks from ZeroFoodprint are back to help diners around the world do some real good on Earth Day. (Or at least ease their conscience a bit, anyway.) Tomorrow, Saturday April 22nd, a lineup of over 80 restaurants in the Bay Area and beyond will contribute $1 per cover served to further ZeroFoodprint’s efforts and offset the carbon impact of each meal.

The nonprofit counts restaurateur Anthony Myint (Mission Chinese, The Perennial), food writer Chris Ying (Lucky Peach, San Francisco Chronicle), and climate expert Peter Freed as its co-founders, and aims to give restaurants the tools they need to be as sustainable and carbon neutral as possible. For restaurants that can’t close the loop as cleanly as The Perennial, ZeroFoodprint offers carbon credits by buying into food-related carbon reduction projects. By measuring the carbon emissions of partner restaurants like Mission Chinese Food in San Francisco and Noma in Copenhagan, ZeroFoodprint is able to estimate the emissions of similar restaurants and calculate the carbon balance across its partner network.

This year, ZFP has 85 restaurants on board with the Earth Day pledge — and more than half of those hail from the Bay Area. (A few of them, like Flour + Water and Benu, are actually carbon neutral every day.) Below is the full list of local participating restaurants, so you can feel good about your Earth Day dinner reservations.
