Lucky 13 redevelopment plan is moving along
Plans to demolish Market Street dive bar Lucky 13 and replace it with a five-story residential apartment building got another green light with an exemption from Environmental Review. The Lucky 13 site at 2140 Market Street has a historic past: It was built as a lodge for a fraternal order and was home to historic gay bar Alfie’s, where Harvey Milk celebrated his election to the Board of Supervisors. Lucky 13 preservationists still have hope via Discretionary Review of the redevelopment project. [SocketSite]
Dining on a Dime digs Tomales Bay oysters
For his latest excursion, Eater’s Dining on a Dime’s host Lucas Peterson drove up the coast from San Francisco to sample Tomales Bay oysters from The Marshall Store. The unassuming general store and oyster purveyor just off Highway 1 is known for its raw bivalves and baked oysters specialities, to say nothing of its waterfront view. [Eater]
Tawla adds happy hour
Mission Mediterranean restaurant Tawla is debuting a happy hour offering: From Sunday to Thursday, they’ll have a $15 sampling menu to pair with $10 glasses of wine or punch. It’s one way to sample the restaurant, which is still relatively fresh to the neighborhood, before diving in for a full meal. [EaterWire]
Jonathan Waxman announces LA restaurant plans
Chef/restaurateur Jonathan Waxman, whose eponymous San Francisco restaurant opened in Ghirardelli Square last year, has announced a forthcoming, as-yet-unnamed project bound for Los Angeles inside the long-awaited Westfield Century City complex. Diners can expect the modern California cuisine Waxman honed as chef at Chez Panisse some decades ago, although these days, the cook is best known for his New York presence with restaurants Barbuto and Jams. Airbnb tests in-app reservations for SF restaurants
Airbnb guests staying in San Francisco can now make restaurant reservations within the Airbnb app through Resy. Airbnb invested heavily in upstart reservation service Resy this year, boosting its chances of competing with larger players like OpenTable. So far, Airbnb is testing the Resy app integration with a limited number of local restaurants. [Fast Company]
