SF Bar Star to Open Cocktail Outpost in Uptown Oakland

Jennifer Colliau is bringing her craft cocktails across the Bay

Uptown Oakland’s food and beverage boom continues with the news that San Francisco bar star Jennifer Colliau will open her first solo bar, called Here’s How. Located directly across from the Fox Theater and next door to Itani Ramen, the bar will occupy a former art gallery in the ground floor commercial space of a condo building.

Colliau doesn’t have much nailed down about the project yet except for the name, which she told Inside Scoop comes from the title of a vintage 1941 cocktail book. The 3,500-square-foot bar will have a small kitchen and an outdoor area with seating; design details, drink menus, and everything else is still in the works.

Though Here’s How will be Colliau’s first solo project, she’s a Bay Area cocktail veteran with two decades of bartending, and consulting under her belt. She’s designed a sustainable bar program for The Perennial, and is currently the beverage director for The Interval. She’s also the owner of a company called Small Hand Foods, which produces small batches of syrups, like orgeat and pinapple gum, that are used in craft cocktails all over town (and beyond).

There’s no word yet on when Here’s How might open. In the meantime, Uptown Oakland will continue its forward march with the addition of Brown Sugar Kitchen, Bocanova, Shinmai, and more.
