Mason Pacific Will Close at the End of July

It’s closing at the end of the month and offering specials until then

The bad news: Russian Hill corner bistro Mason Pacific (1358 Mason at Pacific) is closing at the end of July. The good: Until then, starting on Tuesday, July 25, the restaurant will offer a special 3-course menu for $49 and 50 percent off bottles of wine on its market list. Glasses of vintage burgundy are also half off.

Mason Pacific has had its share of ups and downs, and wine director Eric Railsback says the team wants to bid farewell on a high note. The restaurant weathered a kitchen fire from which it reopened almost exactly a year ago, returning with a new head chef, Max Mackinnon. But after a 2-and-a-half star review from the Chronicle and a Michelin Bib Gourmand nod, Mackinnon split in December. Mason Pacific’s current chef is Justin Wright.

Now, owners Jay and Shannon Thomson are winding down their restaurant to focus on their family and other business projects. After their final service, on the 30th, the space will be available for private rentals.
