Fieldwork Brewing Company’s San Mateo beer garden opened just in time for the holiday weekend, passing its final inspection late last week. The fourth and largest location of the Berkeley brewery is open today, July 3, from noon to 7 p.m. despite a bit of construction dust. They’ll close for the July Fourth holiday tomorrow and reopen with regular hours on the 6th.
The location at Bay Meadows (3030 South Delaware Street, near the Hillsdale Caltrain station) offers 4,500 square feet of space with 30 taps, plus bocce ball courts, fire pits, and a food menu to come. Several double IPAs and a summery salted watermelon gose are currently on draft.
The brewery, which opened a little over two years ago, has been growing at light speed ever since. It’s already won fans with taprooms in Berkeley, midtown Sacramento, and Napa’s Oxbow Public Market. Next up: A downtown Monterey taproom at 520 Munras Street, slated to open later in July.

The brand’s rapid growth might be explained by co-owner and head brewer Alex Tweet. An alum of San Diego’s Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits, Tweet also helped open Modern Times Beer, another San Diego brewer known for big, juicy IPAs. Fieldwork is also dipping its toes into the canning game: Today at the San Mateo beer garden, for example, drinkers get cans to go of Hazy Train, an unfiltered IPA, and Finer Things, a light lager with mosaic hops.
