North Bay fans of Wise Sons won’t need to schlep to the city much longer: The new school Jewish brand’s first permanent branch outside of San Francisco opens in Larkspur on Monday, July 17. Known as Wise Sons Bagelry, the small counter-service restaurant and retail shop will serve a menu more similar to the Fillmore Street Wise Sons Bagel & Bakery, opened last year, than to the one at the original Wise Sons 24th Street Delicatessen. However, the Larkspur location will enjoy expanded lunch options like a new salad menu and to-go items like babka and challah bread.
This fourth and latest location from partners Evan Bloom and Leo Beckerman — in addition to the Mission deli and Fillmore bagel shop, there’s a Wise Sons window in the Contemporary Jewish Museum — was announced in the spring. Until now, North Bay residents could get their weekly Wise Sons fix at the Marin farmers market.
The new shop at 2227 Larkspur Landing Circle is situated in the chi-chi Marin Country Market alongside upscale restaurants, yoga spaces, and a SoulCycle studio. There, while appeasing carb fans with their bagel sandwiches such as hot brisket on sesame, Wise Sons will cater to a more health-conscious crowd. They’ll offer salads like a Kale, Caesar! (shredded kale, parmesan, crushed bagel chips, house caesar, radish) and a Country Club Cobb (pastrami bacon, turkey, greens, pickled carrot, cherry tomato, onion, avocado, radish, blue cheese).
For the breakfast crowd, Wise Sons Bagelry will serve Stumptown coffee and egg sandwiches like the ones at the Fillmore location. Those include newer offerings like a bodega egg and cheese — a nod to the ubiquitous New York convenience store food item with the Bay Area addition of greens and harissa shmear. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
