Elbo Room will stay put through 2019
In 2014, Missionites began mourning Valencia Street bar/venue Elbo Room when building owners floated plans to replace the space with condos. But with that redevelopment project seemingly stalled, Elbo Room has been granted a series of reprieves. In 2015, the bar renewed its lease until 2018, and they’ve just renewed it again through 2019. Looks like SF’s “longest happy hour” just got a little bit longer.
Cafe Du Nord channels the Simpsons with The Flaming Moe cocktail
For Classic Simpsons Trivia at Cafe Du Nord tomorrow (Wednesday), bartenders are serving up a classic Simpsons beverage: The Flaming Moe. True to the episode that the drink comes from, its ingredients are secret and, most importantly, flammable. The trivia night, which starts at 7 p.m., is free and hosted by Simpsons aficionado (and Eater contributor) Adrian Spinelli.

Robot ice cream scooper competes withBi-Rite
An ice-cream scooping robot outside Bi-Rite Creamery at 18th and Dolores raised eyebrows and maybe some spirits with free ice cream on Saturday. Operated by a nearby man via remote control and VR, the service was reportedly swell, but the ice cream — which didn’t come from Bi-Rite — was less memorable.
