More juicy details on the extremely expensive beef sandwich coming to San Francisco from Tokyo food cartel Wagyumafia: The brand’s local partner in crime, so to speak, will be restaurateur Kash Feng and his Omakase Restaurant Group, and the first chance to taste it will be at Feng’s flagship restaurant Omakase at a one-night only $595 dinner from Chef Jackson Yu. Sounds about right.
News that Wagyumafia was coming to San Francisco’s One Henry Adams building, a new, under construction high-end apartment complex, already implicated Feng in the project. It’s located near Omakase group’s restaurants like Okane and Dumpling Time, and in March, Feng revealed plans to open a trifecta of businesses in the building — a steak and whisky restaurant, an udon noodle shop, and a butcher shop.

As Wagyumafia and Feng announced today, that butcher shop will be the exclusive US home of Wagyumafia and the first certified Wagyu butcher shop in the states. As soon as early next year, the shop will be open, selling Kobe and Wagyu beef for retail as well as Wagyumafia’s famous sandwiches at lunchtime, priced from $8 to $180, depending on the cut of meat. Details about the udon shop and the steakhouse aren’t yet known, but it’s safe to assume that the latter will stock some high-end beef, and probably some good whisky to wash it down.
The dinner preview for Wagyumafia will be held on August 30 at Omakase, where Feng regularly lures deep-pocketed diners for high-end fish. It will be limited to 20 guests in two seatings and will feature Champagne from the 1776-founded house Louis Roederer, all included in the $595 per person price tag. That’s one golden calf — Here’s the menu.
