Food and travel television host Andrew Zimmern was seen foraging for mushrooms and perhaps other strange foods in the Ferry Building today, as is his schtick on his popular shows like Bizarre Foods. The food personality visited Far West Fungi there, where “he bought a few products,” an assistant manager tells Eater by phone.
Far West Fungi farms their mushrooms at Moss Landing in Monterey and sells them online, at farmers markets, and at a Ferry Building kiosk. Zimmern got “some of the dried cultivated mix that we have, truffle salt, and two types of fresh mushroom,” the manager says: “a king trumpet mushroom and a basket of porcini mushrooms, which I think he used later in the day for a salad.”
Zimmern was last spotted by Eater Austin filming at a ramen shop there a week ago. He’s currently at work on a new Travel show called The Zimmern List, an 18-episode half-hour series that’ a departure from his usual televised diet of strange and fermented foods. This time, he’s reportedly just focusing on foods he likes, but given his palate, some of them could still be bizarre.

Last time Zimmern was noticed in the Ferry Building was in 2013, where he went to Boccalone for a sandwich. Later on that visit, he was seen at Incanto, dining on brains and eggs, before enjoying a sunde at Don Bugito — with mealworms on it.
