All the Vegan Pastries Are Now in Berkeley’s Elmwood Neighborhood

Timeless Coffee’s second location is now open

Ellen Fort

A second location of Timeless Coffee is now open in Berkeley’s Elmwood neighborhood, serving an extensive selection of vegan cakes, pastries, doughnuts, and of course, coffee.

Compared to its larger, older sibling on Oakland’s Piedmont Ave. — the result of a 2016 expansion into the space next door — the Berkeley cafe is teeny tiny. However, the pastry case there is filled with treats like vegan birthday cake, chocolate truffles, cheesecakes, cinnamon rolls, and lemon bars. There’s even savory items like a Tofurky sausage roll that even a carnivore could learn to love.

Coffee is roasted by owner RJ Leimpeter in small batches at the Piedmont location, and is also available by the bag. Espresso drinks are the main attraction here, though iced tea and a few other variations are available. And unlike other nearby coffee shops that are magnets for studying students and laptop lurkers, the cozy and wifi-less interior of Timeless is more suited to a quick coffee or visit with an actual human being. (Read: there aren’t many places to sit.)

It’s an aesthetically pleasing addition to the neighborhood, which has seen an influx of new shops like fancy juice spot Urban Remedy, and the upcoming Donato & Co, which will around the corner in the beginning of October. Hours are 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday through Sunday.
