After drawing on the popularity of cat cafés in Asia when it opened in San Francisco in 2015, KitTea Cafe is now adopting another trend making its way to the West: Hong Kong-style bubble waffle wraps. Cat fanciers can enjoy KitTea’s savory and sweet varieties while playing with adorable felines: Options include a two-scoop ice cream sundae with bananas, sprinkles, and chocolate sauce.

Daniel Patterson’s Alta picks a spot for LA expansion

Daniel Patterson is going all-in on his Alta restaurants, with three for the Bay Area, and he’s just revealed specific plans for Los Angeles, with a project in West Adams, at 5365 West Adams Blvd. It’s expected to open sometime net year. Amy’s Drive Thru is taking vegetarian fast-food nationwide

Amy’s Drive Thru is a brick-and-mortar location of the Petaluma-based Amy’s food company, known for stocking freezer aisles with veggie burritos and pizza. There’s sonly one so far, in Rohnert Park, with another in the works for Corte Madera. But the business owners tell Fast Company that they’ve been so successful, they hope to open Amy’s Drive Thru locations all across the country. The restaurants won’t be franchised, the owners say, and major expansions are still a ways off.

Jardinière celebrates 20 years with anniversary events

After two highly influential decades in Hayes Valley, Traci Des Jardin is feting her restaurant and community with four days of special events. Those start this Saturday, September 9, with a six-course tasting menu highlighting past menus and restaurant alumni. On Sunday, there’s a five-course tasting menu dinner benefitting La Cocina that underscores some of the powerful women in Hayes Valley food, like Gabriela Camera (Cala) Kim Alter (Nightbird), Sarah Rich (Rich Table), and Dominique Crenn (Petit Crenn). On Monday, a cocktail celebration will be held, and a friends and alumni-only event happens Tuesday. Eater’s profile of Des Jardins’ achievements includes high praise from the many chefs who have worked with her. “She is somebody who always thinks about community,” says former Jardiniere sous chef Michael Hung, now partner at Ardour Hospitality.
