Blue Bottle Coffee/Facebook

The latest Blue Bottle

Oakland’s new Blue Bottle Coffee at 4001 Piedmont Avenue officially has an opening date: Saturday, November 3. Get there from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to snag free coffee, while all merchandise sales from that day will be donated to the Ecology Center. And definitely be prepared for long lines.

Thai in Alameda

Thai House Barn is now open at 1319 Park Street in downtown Alameda, landing in the former Angkor Grill space. It offers typical Thai standards but also carries a Lao menu, which is the first for the island city.

Fresh beer at Stay Gold

Oakland’s Stay Gold Deli has started brewing its own beer with a contract brewer, who is choosing not to be named. Now you can try Stay Gold’s sandwiches and barbecue with pale ales, porters, and hefes as Stay Gold intended it.

Charcoal ice cream

Alameda is getting in on the rolled ice cream trend with Roll & Bowl, which is anticipating a December opening at 2302 Encinal Avenue. The shop is promising unusual flavors like intensely black charcoal.
