Taiwanese Street Snack Sensation Arrives in SF With Giant Chicken Cutlets

Plus: A clubby KBBQ chain heads to Mountain View

Stonestown Galleria scores Shihlin outpost

Growing chain Shihlin Taiwanese Street Snacks, which already operates Berkeley and Milpitas locations, has arrived at San Francisco’s Stonestown Galleria bearing its signature giant chicken cutlets (da ji pai), “grandmas” braised meat rice, lemon aiyu jelly drinks, and more inexpensive treats. “Soft opening” hours are Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 3251 20th Ave. Next up, a Pleasanton Shihlin location is in the works.

Gen Korean BBBQ House heads to Mountain View

2540 W. El Camino Real will reportedly be the home of the 6th Bay Area Gen Korean BBQ House, a clubby, new-school, grill-it-yourself Korean barbecue restaurant. Gen is known for its all-you-can-eat beef, pork, noodles, and more, with some fusion elements like Hawaiian-style steak and cajun chicken. Stay tuned for more as the next Gen approaches.

Abstract Table opens tonight

Abstract Table, a new dinner series intended as a permanent nighttime fixture at Oakland breakfast hit the Gastropig, debuts tonight. Five-course ($50 per person) and seven-course ($70 per person) menus from chefs and artists Andrew Green and Duncan Kwitkor are available, billed as rotating “exhibitions.”

New cocktails at very old Elixir

Mission cocktail den Elixir is about to turn 15 — though its bar space is about 160 years old, so beat that. The new fall list includes cocktails like the Healthy Glow (Speyburn 10 year single malt whisky, Ancho Reyes chile liqueur, lemon juice, turmeric honey syrup, an Fee Bros cherry bitters served short over a large cube) and a Pamplemousse au Poivre that won the 2018 Cocktail of the Year award from the SF World Spirits Competition: That’s Del Maguey Vida mezcal, Giffard Crème de Pamplemousse Rose, Elixir sichuan pepper cordial, and Bitter Truth grapefruit bitters over crushed ice with pink peppercorns.
