Financial District’s shuttered Mexican restaurant is going Italian
Australian restaurateurs (and siblings) Priscilla Dosiou and Thomas Glenwright are the new stewards of Mercedes, the Mexican restaurant that shuttered last fall as the result of a rent hike. Hotel San Francisco will open in mid-April, offering Italian “bar bites,” cocktails, and wine with 50 seats upstairs to start, and an additional 50 opening downstairs as a lounge area in the next few months.
Casey’s Pizza is now open for lunch
Mission Bay dwellers and workers can now snag Casey’s pies for Friday and Saturday lunch (or brunch, depending on your state of mind). It’s available from 11:30 - 3 p.m. on Friday, and 11:30- 9 p.m. on Saturday for the very late risers. Tablehopper caught wind of the return of egg-and-bacon-topped brunch pie, should pizza fans need any further encouragement.
Shout out to movers and shakers in the food and beverage world
SF Biz Journal’s 40 under 40 list is out, and in a sea of bankers, brokers, and financial-types, a few food and beverage stars made the cut: Caleb Zigas, executive director of non-profit La Cocina, Alex Tweet, the founder and head brewer of Berkeley-based Fieldwork, and Peter Yen, founder of Sushirrito.
Fancy market adds fancy valet parking
Woodland’s, the pleasantly ritzy grocery store in the bottom of the LUMINA building, has added valet parking to its list of amenities. Free, one-hour valet parking will be available to shoppers at 333 Beale (corner of Folsom and Main), seven days a week. Founder Don Santa says the move is to encourage those beyond walking distance to visit the market (and buy more than they can carry, of course). It’s a legit move in an area with few full-service grocery options, and a gnarly parking situation.
Vegan night is back at Alamanac’s SF taproom
The SF Beer Week event was so popular that it’s coming back tonight, Wednesday, March 7. In addition to the regular menu (including the very meaty burger), there’ll be some late winter/early spring produce featured in dishes like loaded falafel on flatbread, and farmers market tempura to pair with this week’s new beer, a hazy double IPA called “They’re Good Hops Brent!”
Treasure Island’s Aracely Cafe is now open for dinner
Head over to Treasure Island for some pleasant evening views as Aracely Cafe has added dinner on Thursday and Friday from 5:30 p.m.- 10 p.m. There’s also brunch, best enjoyed on the garden patio by a firepit.
