The taco team at Tacolicious are working with the souvlaki folks at Souvla on a collaboration, making “Souvlalicious Lamb mole tacos” and lamb mole rice bowls. The reprisal of a one-off guest chef appearance at Tacolicious’ Ferry Plaza farmers market stand from Souvla chef Tony Cervone is available for delivery on Caviar now through Sunday.
The Bayview’s Jazz Room gets legacy nod
The 1962-opened Bayview bar and music club the Jazz Room has been granted legacy business status at its 5267 Third Street home. That means the business is entitled to city grants of $500 per full-time employee per year plus rent stabilization grants. Since 2015, it’s the 130th addition to the list, which can accept up to 300 business per year.
Last-minute tip-pooling rule a relief to California restaurants
An eleventh hour addition to the 2018 federal budget reverses a restriction in states including California that disallowed tip pools to evenly distribute tips among the front of the house (servers, hosts, etc) and back of the house (chefs, dishwashers, and others). “It’s a big gasp of relief,” Stuart Brioza, who co-owns State Bird Provisions and the Progress, told the Chronicle, who had an in-depth report on the law.
First dance with Dancing Yak
New Nepalese restaurant Dancing Yak at 280 Valencia Street is taking over from the departed Babu Ji starting Monday, April 16. Hours at the bar and restaurant will be 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. to start off.
Lady Falcon hosts Babes at the Box Office pop-up
Roving cafe truck and coffee roaster Lady Falcon Coffee Club is setting up shop at the Balboa Theatre from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow, April 14, celebrating women founders of local brands and screening the film Pretty in Pink. Baggu will be giving out baggus, Third Love will be doing gift card giveaways, and Lady Falcon’s will be making coffee drinks for free and serving, beer, cider, and popcorn.
