Downtown Berkeley restaurant Five is checking out of The Hotel Shattuck Plaza, leaving the elegant dining room and kitchen space it’s occupied there at 2086 Allston Way on June 18th. Then, after a thorough remodel from SF-based designer Anthony Laurino, the hotel will re-open the space as Zino, a Mediterranean restaurant.
Executive chef Brandon Hicks will lead the new kitchen: His experience includes Michelin-starred Picholine, where he was chef de parti, and ilili and Brasserie 8 1/2 in New York, where was chef de cuisine. Hicks says his menu at Zino will feature dishes from the region’s 22 countries, with seafood, meat and poultry dishes, a selection of mezze, and tagines presented in big Mediterranean vessels. The bar program includes cocktails, beer, and wine.
Renderings of the redesigned space show its high ceilings and layout much the same, with new furnishings throughout. Stay tuned as Zino targets a late summer opening.
