Just after Kinjo (2206 Polk) received its first Michelin star last fall, the business was suddenly closed by flooding from an upstairs neighbor. The timing wasn’t great, obviously, and the repairs took longer than expected (originally, they hoped to reopen in January) Now, at long last, Kinjo is back, but it isn’t exactly the same as it was before.
Takatoshi Toshi (Sushi Ran) opened the 42-seat omakase sushi restaurant with Billy Kong and Kua Chuang of Lower Haight sushi spot Ijji in January 2016. But during the extended closure, Toshi departed the restaurant, as he confirms to Eater SF, returning to Marin to open Masa’s Sushi and Appetizer in Novato.
Now in charge of the kitchen at Kinjo is chef Fujii Tahahiro of Japan, who is being billed as a “guest chef.” Tahihiro has new menus, too: Both kaiseki (a traditional multi-course dinner) and sushi-focused omakase menus to choose from.
Eater SF has reached out to Kinjo for more details on the new menu offerings and changes. According to the restaurant’s website, sushi bar seating is reserved for the full kaiseki menu, $135 per person, and table service is $80 per guest. Hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 5:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
