Stonemill Matcha adds Kakigōri
New matcha cafe Stonemill is already a pastry powerhouse (thanks to the talents of pastry chef Mikiko Yui), but now they’re adding some cooler sweets for warmer days, introducing Kakigōri ($11). The Japanese dessert consists of fluffy ice shaved to order and topped with foamy matcha plus toppings like roasted strawberries to mix in. Stonemill serves it on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (or until sold out).
Midnight ice cream social (with free scoops) at Salt & Straw
Portland-founded Salt & Straw — which is about to stake a bigger claim in the Bay Area with two new ice cream shops on the way — is getting ready to release 12 Bay Area specific flavors (that will stick around for good). Fans who want the first taste can show up on Thursday, June 28 at midnight (until 2 a.m.) for a free scoop in a cup or sugar cone. New “classic” flavors include Sightglass Coffee cashew praline and Cowgirl Creamery’s Mt. Tam cheese ice cream with swirls of sour cherry and apricot jam and candied bits of Acme Bread’s fruit and walnut bread.
Foxsister tests Benedict brunch pop-up
Funky 24th Street Korean spot Foxsister, which debuted last fall, is testing something new: A brunch pop-up called Benedict. Starting July 7 (and, for now, just through August 12), it runs on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. And yes, per the name, it’s all about the Benedicts — plus more Foxsister items and options for bottomless mimosas and bloody Marys (but don’t sleep on the restaurant’s refreshing soju slushies).

Cento Osteria is now brunch central
Another brunch alert: Italian Embarcadero restaurant Cento Osteria has kicked off brunch service on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Order options include a brunch egg pizza — or add an egg to any pizza and call it a brunch pizza, that totally counts.
