Mission Classic Old Jerusalem Reopens at Large New Location Nearby

It’s got a big new patio, too

Old Jerusalem is new again: The popular Mission Street restaurant, which faced demolition at its previous home at 2976 Mission (between 25th and 26th Streets) has migrated three doors down to 2966 Mission (in the former Hot Press Space). It’s open there after a single day off to complete the move.

The new digs are twice as large as the previous ones, according to manager Salim Nasser. His father, Ahmad Nasser, opened the restaurant 14 years ago to serve Palestinian dishes from his native Ramallah, working alongside his business partner, Hajem Almukdad, who is originally from Syria.

The new Old Jerusalem space has more restrooms, a bigger kitchen, and a large back patio with tented seating and heaters for chilly evenings. In the coming months, the restaurant may introduce hookah smoking to the back, too. And the menu is slightly changed, the younger Nasser says — but beloved dishes like Mousakhan, a roasted half chicken served atop flatbread with sumac, pine nuts, and sweet onions, aren’t going anywhere.

Old Jerusalem’s hours are 12 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Sunday.
