Vegetarian dining enclave Greens Restaurant has been temporarily closed by a small fire in its Fort Mason kitchen. “We are currently working on repairing the damages and are unsure of our opening date” says a message on the restaurant’s voicemail machine. The closure is expected to last for a few weeks at least, and the restuarant’s website indicates it will remain shuttered through July.
“We want to thank all of our guests and community for all the love and support they have shown us,” the message continues. “We look forward to serving you again very soon.”
Greens, a nearly 40-year-old business, opened in 1979 as part of San Francisco’s Zen Center, serving produce from its own Green Gulch Farm in Marin. Executive chef Annie Somerville, who started cooking at Greens in 1981, entered a partial retirement this march, the Chronicle reports, and was not in the kitchen at the time of the fire.
