Another Loving Cup opens
Loving Cup’s fifth “swirl shop” for frozen yogurt and more is opening today at 11:30 a.m. (to 9:30 p.m.) at 608 Divisadero (between Rare Device and Emporium). The business, which adds toppings and flavors right into its yogurt as it swirls, got its start in 2008 in Russian Hill. It recently received an influx of investment from La Boulangerie, with which it will start franchising further expansion. Fans near the Divis corridor are already rejoicing, but beware a Saturday rush, since they’re handing out free swirls from 2 to 3 p.m. at the new spot.
My way or the Hi-Way
Hi-Way Burger and Fry is now open in the former Caskhouse space at 3853 24th Street in Noe Valley, dishing out burgers and diner-style nostalgia. Burgers start at $7, and fried chicken sandwiches with buttermilk batter, vegetarian burgers, and Chicago-style hot dogs are also an option, plus milkshakes with Strauss Dairy for the full treatment. Hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. — awfully ambitious for sleepy Noe.
Yo También Cantina quietly opens in the Inner Sunset
205 Hugo Street, formerly the Wooly Pig (which is back open in Dogpatch) has a new place to hang out for “Tropical-Local” eats: Yo También Cantina and Mercadito. Hours so far are Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. (closed Tuesdays) and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 3 P.m. Stay tuned for more as these folks get off the ground.
Napa’s Red Hen is under collateral fire in Sarah Huckabee Sanders tempest
A 35-year-old Mexican restaurant in Napa called the Red Hen has been the target of antagonistic phone calls and negative Yelp reviews due to the coincidence of its name and the name of a restaurant in Virginia that chose not to serve Donald Trump’s press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders. The Virginia restaurant in question has been targeted far more so, with its owner receiving death threats, but other, unrelated businesses, like Napa’s, are also caught up in the firestorm of hateful trolling.
