New York critics aren’t falling all over themselves for Una Pizza this time
First, take a moment to appreciate how many critical voices are active in New York: Eater NY’s review roundup includes six voices (well, including GOOP) with opinions on pizzaiolo Anthony Mangieri’s exacting pies. Meanwhile, not all of those opinions are as worshipful of Mangieri’s handiwork as San Francisco’s. Eater NY critic Ryan Sutton and NYTimes critic Pete Wells both gave the restaurant one star with plenty of pizza criticism, though it sounds like many are befuddled by the addition of small plates by Mangieri’s partners, Jeremiah Stone and Fabián von Hauske Valtierra of Contra and Wildair. Read all about it here.
Silicon Valley Beer Week is a thing
Silicon Valley is getting in on the beer scene, throwing their own nine-day extravaganza in addition to SF Beer Week (which takes place in February with ten days of heavy beer consumption throughout the Bay Area). There’ll be tap takeovers from Stone Brewing, 21st Amendment, Speakeasy, and more, super conveniently located in the South Bay.
Gilroy Garlic Festival celebrates 40 years of gross ice cream
This year the festival celebrating all things garlic will be headlined by Iron Chef Michael Symon. There’ll also be appearances by Brian Boitano, Olympic figure skater and South Bay native, and all kinds of other demos, cooking challenges, and garlic-flavored food items. Here’s a full guide to the stinky party.
Chinatown food fest will bring all the best snacks to one place
Mochi, dumplings, dragon beard candy, and all the best that Chinatown has to offer will be present at this festival, which is presented by the Community Youth Center of SF. It’s happening July 28 on Waverly Place, with contributions from STEAP Tea Bar, Mister Jiu’s, China Live, and more. Get all the details here.
