Twin Peaks Log Cakes, Shangela, Bill Nye, and More on Deck for GastroMagic Stage

Outside Lands is coming in hot this year with culinary mashups

Paige Parsons

Here she comes: The lineup for this year’s Gastromagic stage at Outside Lands has landed, and once again it’s got some very rowdy performances planned. The stage was created to mashup the creative energy between chefs and performers, in addition to the typically exception (nay, best) festival food lineup in the country, and this year is no exception.

There’s a lot to choose from, but highlights include Mister Jiu’s pastry boss Melissa Chou crafting log cakes to the music of Twin Peaks from the Red Room Orchestra (a group composed of heavy-hitters from other bands like Cake, Feist, and Cibo Matto), plus appearances by Michael Horse (Deputy Hawk) and James Marshall (James Hurley) ; everyone’s favorite science guy, Bill Nye, and chef Matty Matheson will do something onstage that involves science, though exactly what remains a mystery; Shangela, star of RuPaul’s Drag Race, will join former Top Chef contestant Tiffani Faison onstage for “fish and tea”; chef Naomi Pomeroy of Portland’s Beast will collaborate with Portugal. The Man.

And though Big Freedia won’t be in attendance this year, fellow bounce diva Katey Red will pick up the slack, handing out hot beignets with Brenda’s French Soul Food. Might want to head over to the newly minted Grass Lands ahead of this one.

Cocktail Magic, the craft cocktail wonderland adjacent to GastroMagic, will also be in full swing once more, with drinks from True Laurel, Horsefeather, Blackbird, Benjamin Cooper, the Beehive, and Rye.

Check out the full, unadulterated lineup below:
