Lagunitas Brewing Company has a new beer alternative now available in some local pot shops: Hi-FI hops, a sparkling beverage with hops and THC (but no alcohol) that will get drinkers stoned (or a bit buzzed with just 5 to 10 mg of THC), The Heineken-owned brewer has cultivated an image closely associated with cannabis, regularly releasing beers like the Waldo Special, named for the North Bay pioneers of the term 4:20, but this is their first offering with legit, active marijuana. Get it in SF at stores like the Green Cross and Urban Phrarm.
Orinda man eats at 99 of 100 restaurants on World’s Best list
Orinda diner Paul Grinberg has gained media attention for his not-quite-accomplished quest to eat at all 100 restaurants on the World’s 100 Best list. Since 2011, the apparently well-heeled eater has travelled to 99 of them, but has yet to been able to enjoy Sushi Saito, an eight-seat sushi counter ranked at number 97, in Tokyo, Japan. Godspeed.
Bon Appétit’s list of Best New Restaurants has lots of Bay Area contenders
It’s looking good for Bay Area restaurants on Bon Appétit’s coveted collection of the best new 50 restaurants in the country. The locals are The Charter Oak, Che Fico, Nyum Bai, Robin, RT Rotisserie, and Sorrel. On August 14, the magazine will narrow the list to the top ten.
Wine tasting room will replace Doc’s Lab
After closing to the public early this spring, North Beach restaurant and venue Doc’s Lab and Doc Ricketts, a new owner is in place for the space, which was once the historic comedy club the Purple Onion. Mark Lyon of Eco Terrno Wines in Sonoma reportedly has plans to take over the space as a winery tasting room and restaurant.
