Trick Dog Bridges the Gap Between Cocktails and the Kitchen With Menu #12

Introducing “The Joy of Cocktails,” with recipes from some of SF’s best chefs

Trick Dog

Trick Dog, the Mission cocktail enclave known for its uber-creative bi-annual menu changes, is back at it, launching its twelfth menu in six years. The newest iteration: The Joy of Cocktails, a playful take on Irma Rombauer’s manual for home cooks, the Joy of Cooking.

For their recipe book, creative dynamos Josh Harris and Morgan Schick collaborated with 16 of San Francisco’s best chefs from 13 restaurants to create a menu of supremely culinary cocktails.

Chefs like Dominique Crenn (Atelier Crenn), Gabriela Camara (Cala), Traci Des Jardins (Jardiniére), Sarah and Evan Rich (Rich Table, RT Rotisserie), and Ravi Kapur (Liholiho Yacht Club) are just a few of the talents included in the project. Each chef’s cocktail reflects their preferences for booze, and something about their restaurant, like the homemade orgeat and pineapple rum in Liholiho’s cocktail, or the Douglas fir that’s become Rich Table’s signature flavor infused into a simple syrup. (Check out photos and descriptions of drinks here.)

Recipes are included in this cocktail cookbook, though true to Trick Dog fashion, it’s unlikely that even the most enthusiastic cocktailers will attempt these at home. (The 16-ingredient nocino included in Craig Stoll’s Delfina cocktail sounds lovely, but challenging.)

Past menu themes include Trick Dog Airways, a mural project, a children’s book, conspiracy theories, and a calendar of cute dogs. Per usual, the cookbook will be available for sale, with proceeds benefitting a non-profit; this time the cookbook will cost $45, and benefit La Cocina, an incubator assisting low-income food entrepreneurs as they develop their businesses.

The new menu is live today, July 6, and will switch gears again next January. Check out the full list of restaurants with participating chefs below:

Trick Dog is open 3 p.m. - 2 a.m., seven days a week.
