Tacolicious Sells Bar San Pancho, 16th Street Cantina

The space will become something new this fall — though perhaps with more tequila involved

Cal-Mex sports and margaritas spot Bar San Pancho is bowing out of the 16th and Guerrero location that its owners at Tacolicious have operated for the past several years. The 3198 16th Street space will close sometime this fall to reopen under new owners, who may well have plans to serve more tequila: According to a liquor license transfer, the newcomers — who have ties to revered cocktail bar ABV down the block — operate as Elda Agave LLC.

“We’ve had a great two-year run with Bar San Pancho (go Warriors) but it’s come time for us to focus on the growth of Tacolicious, the Tacolicious School Project, and MF Chicken,” said a representative for the restaurants. “We are excited for the future of our company and we can’t wait to see the awesome Bar San Pancho space be reinvented yet again!”

Tacolicous operates five locations in the Bay Area, plus a bar, Mosto, neighboring its Valencia Street restaurant. To open a spinoff dumpling and noodle restaurant called Chino in 2014, Tacolicious owner Joe Hargrave signed a 15-year lease on the corner space at 3198 16th Street. After 18 months, Hargrave converted Chino to Bar San Pancho, serving tacos and tortas to sports fans.

Soon those fans will have to find a new spot to watch the games — a closing date hasn’t been set. And speaking of sports, Bar San Pancho operates a space inside AT&T Park, which will remain open as such for now according to Tacolicious.

Stay tuned for more on Bar San Pancho’s replacement: Eater has reached out to owners for details and will add updates accordingly.
