Fast-casual chicken spot Piri Pica opens today, starring Portuguese-style grilled chicken known as piri piri. Diners can try four variations on the bird paired with sides or as a sandwich, wrap, or salad topping. The restaurant, from Khalid Mushasha (Lolinda, Black Cat) and chef Telmo Faria (Tacolicious, Uma Casa), is located at 590 Valencia Street.
Local and seasonal fare in Menlo Park
Chef-owner Greg Kuzia-Carmel (Cotogna and Per Se) opens Camper today at 898 Santa Cruz Avenue in Menlo Park, joining force with Logan Levant (Buttercake Bakery in Los Angeles), Roland Passot (La Folie), and Vine Dining Enterprises (Left Bank Brasserie). The farm-to-table restaurant’s current menu features the likes of smoked ricotta gnudi with olives, celery root, and lardo; barbecued carrots with black eyed peas, kohlrabi, and romesco; and premium cuts of beef as pricey as $125 for a 32-ounce ribeye.
A brick-and-mortar for El Pípila
Guadalupe Guerrero’s El Pípila — currently a food stand at Bay Area street fairs and a catering business operating out of La Cocina — will open a brick-and-mortar restaurant on the ground floor of an upcoming SoMa condo building at 879 Brannan Street. Guerrero specializes in the cuisine of Guanajuato, Mexico.
Korean-Mexican fusion in Oakland
Burrito Inn is now open at 4496 Broadway in Oakland’s Temescal. The restaurant offers a mix of rice bowls and lunch boxes with banchan as well as tacos, burritos, and quesadillas stuffed with Korean meats.
Mister Bolenca winds down in Berkeley
Mister Bolenca, the funky Asian fusion sandwich pop-up, is leaving its residency at Highwire Coffee at 2049 San Pablo Avenue in Berkeley. Chef-owner Sincere Justice announced he’ll either transition to a farmers’ market stand or move into a new space. Your last day to get one of Mister Bolenca’s braised Thai curry beef or Sichuan egg sandwiches is Thursday, September 20.
