The Marin Country Mart is the lucky recipient of the latest Johnny Doughnuts location, whose window is now open in Building 3 within the dining and retail destination at 2257 Larkspur Landing Circle. It’s the third brick and mortar outpost of the growing doughnut business, founded in 2012 by Craig Blum and known for its custard-oozing bismarks, caramel apple fritters, and raised doughnuts with a touch of fresh potato for an added bite.
Johnny Doughnuts’ first fixed location opened in downtown San Rafael, followed by San Francisco’s Hayes Valley last fall. The business also operates three roaming doughnut trucks — one vehicle even played a part in Denzel Washington’s Oscar-nominated film Roman J. Israel, Esq. Does that mean Johnny Doughnuts can call itself Oscar-nominated?
For its part, the new Marin County Mart location is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m, with plans to expand to 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Beyond doughnuts, they’ve got pour-over coffee, a “crodough” concoction akin to to the famed cronut, and even a seasonally appropriate pumpkin doughnut pudding.
The shop is just the latest coup for the Marin County Mart, which has amassed a serious lineup of food businesses, from Wise Sons Bagelry to the charming Fishers Cheese and Wine. Next up: A Shake Shack location is forthcoming.
