Known for its stuffed deep-dish pizzas and ubiquity on “best” pizza lists, Zachary’s Chicago Pizza opened its fifth location on Monday night, in the Grand Avenue spot in Oakland most recently occupied by Camino, Berkeleyside reports.
It’s been over a year since the employee-owned company announced plans to take over the old Camino location, which — it should be noted — is quite near The Star on Grand, the Little Star spinoff also known for its deep-dish offerings. And it’s quite a big change for the space, going from critically acclaimed, high-end California cuisine to a family-friendly pizza joint.
A look at the newest location’s menu suggests that its menu will deviate little from Zachary’s other outposts, with favorites like its Zachary’s Special (Italian sausage, green pepper, onion, mushroom and mozzarella) and Good Health (chicken breast, spinach, and reduced-fat mozzarella on a wheat crust) still in rotation.
One thing the Grand Avenue location has that others don’t is booze. This location boasts a full bar, which Zachary’s COO Leandra Schuler said would be the first for the chain. What it doesn’t offer is third-party delivery, so to grab yourself a stuffed Barbecue Chicken (chicken breast, red onions, cilantro, barbecue sauce, and cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses) you’ll have to visit it in person.
Zachary’s on Grand is open for dinner from 5-10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and from 5 to 10:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
