Chubby Noodle launches Fat Noodle
Chubby Noodle owner Pete Mrabe has finally utilized his trademarked name, Fat Noodle. Don’t be confused: This is in no way affiliated with Saison owner Joshua Skenes and then-partner Adam Fleischman (founder of Umami Burger), who’d planned to open a casual noodle chain of the same name back in 2014. Mrabe filed a lawsuit against Saison Group at the time, arguing trademark infringement over the “confusingly similar” names; ultimately Saison Group abandoned the trademark, which Mrabe later registered.
Mrabe is now using the name to launch a pop-up with delivery app Caviar starting March 1. The menu, which will be offered indefinitely (and could end up as its own restaurant), will include more soup noodles options than its Chubby siblings.
TV-famous East Bay ice cream shop filled with roaches
Walnut Creek ice cream shop, San Francisco Creamery, has been closed because of what sounds like a particularly awful roach infestation. Despite its high Yelp rating and recent appearance on a Travel Channel show (“Best Places To Pig Out”), the roach problem seems to have gone unnoticed by customers for some time: Inspectors found live (and dead) cockroaches and their eggs throughout the food prep areas. It must past inspections to reopen.
Sonoma Restaurant Week starts Friday, March 1
From Friday, March 1 to Sunday, March 10, visitors to participating restaurants in Sonoma County can expect discounted set menus. Lots of noteworthy spots are in on it, including Spoonbar, and a new rooftop restaurant in Healdsburg called the Rooftop at Harmon Guest House. Check out the full list of restaurants here.
New Chef’s Cubano at Media Noche
Though usually a collaboration with chefs like Melissa King or Liza Shaw, Media Noche’s monthly charitable special for March was selected from fan suggestions. It’s a Spicy Buffalo Chicken Cubano, with chicken, ranch, blue cheese crumbles, pickled jalapeños, celery and carrot slaw. The creator Peter Michaels Allen has chosen to donate proceeds to La Casa De Las Madres.
