The original location of MAC’D in the Marina is closed, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. It seems owner Chen-Chen Huo couldn’t come to terms with the landlord on a long-term lease.
Jason Brown and Huo opened their first mac and cheese-centric restaurant in 2017. A second location opened at 2127 Polk Street in Russian Hill last July, with a third opening in Portland, Oregon earlier this year. According to Huo at the time of the Polk Street opening, Brown is no longer affiliated with the restaurant.
Both Russian Hill and Portland plan to remain open, and Huo says they’re not ruling out further expansion.
For those unfamiliar with how MAC’D works, diners mix-and-match mac and cheese bowls by choosing a pasta shape, a cheese sauce like cheddar or honey-jalapeño, additions such as hot dogs or shrimp, and toppings like hot Cheetos and pulled pork.
