There’s some new action in the kitchen at SoMa sports bar Trademark: SF Chickenbox, from chef Christian Ciscle, serving fried chicken and more from 11 a.m. “till late.” Chicken sidekicks include Ciscle’s mochi muffins in various flavors, macaroni salad, coleslaw — not to mention drinks from the bar.
At Trademark (1123 Folsom Street, attached to sister cocktail bar Copyright) SF Chickenbox is a partnership with Ciscle and Alchemy chefs Ronnie Taylor and Tim Luym (Buffalo Theory). The menu (below) includes several box sizes and ordering options including a fried chicken sandwich. For a kick, there’s moombah sauce, a sweet and spicy sauce inspired by mumbo sauce, popular in Ciscle’s native Baltimore.
SF Chickenbox isn’t Ciscle’s first brush with chicken: Previously, he opened and ran (then sold) popular Lower Haight wing shop Wing Wings. And before that, he was the opening chef at southern-focused Farmerbrown, which broke hearts when it closed in November.
But Ciscle would rather focus on what’s happening now with SF Chickenbox than his past projects, he says. “This is just about fresh fried chicken for the City.”
SF Chickenbox kicked off with a bang on Monday, and will resume Wednesday, April 17. Takeout and delivery — the brand was built to travel — is coming soon.
