Fluffy, fluffy, fluffy pancakes
Gram Cafe, the Japanese chain dedicated to all things pancake, will open in Stonestown Galleria on April 5. There’ll be classic, jiggly souffle pancakes, plus a special SF version of red bean matcha pancakes with matcha mascarpone cream and mochi, plus “taco pancakes” with spicy beams, lime and chips, and long lines, among other things. Stay tuned for more details.
A tribute to a dying breed
The restaurateur behind Gios, Giovanni Costabile, passed away recently. Though Gio’s location on Commercial Street has been closed for years, it was the end of an era. SF Chronicle food editor Paolo Lucchesi wrote a fitting tribute to the man, and to the version of rapidly-changing San Francisco we are coming to know as the distant past.
Opening day cometh, and so do the deals
Super Duper is a newbie at Oracle Park, and to celebrate they’re giving away food at every location of the chain on Friday, April 5. Anyone wearing Giants gear (or that of local little league or high school baseball teams) will get a free order of fries or kids-sized soft serve with a burger or sandwich.
Over at nearby Epic Steak, there are a few deals in the works. Smoked pork ribs with fries and Cracker Jacks ($19) and hot dogs with fries and Cracker Jacks (for kids, $9) will be available all day til 7 p.m. There’s even a cocktail with Cracker Jacks coating the rim.
Oakland’s Temple Club has closed
The popular Vietnamese restaurant at 2307 International Blvd. has closed, reports Tablehopper. Apparently owners Geoff Deetz and wife Quynh Nhu are looking for another location, so stay tuned for more on that.
Dessert deals are the best deals
CREAM, the cookie sandwich chain, is having a customer appreciation event today, April 3, at its SF and Stonestown locations. Get $2 off any item (well, any item $3.99 and up) at Stonestown from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m., and the Valencia location from 5 p.m.-8 p.m.
