Virgin Hotels Opens SF Cafe With Hugh Jackman’s Coffee Company

Yes, Hugh Jackman has a coffee company

Funny Library

There’s one more opening at the new Virgin Hotels SF, whose downstairs restaurant and lounge, Commons Club, opened last month, and whose rooftop bar, Everdene, is absolutely packed. A cafe called Funny Library serves its fist customers today at 250 4th Street, with coffee, espresso drinks, and some food items like baked goods from Craftsman and Wolves and Firebrand.

Funny Library does indeed stock some reading material, and it’s an appropriate — though, according to a representative, coincidental — name given its partnership with Laughing Man Coffee, a roasting company co-founded by actor Hugh Jackman. As Virgin Hotels expands — San Francisco is is the second market for the hospitality arm of the mega-corporation, best known for its jets — more Funny Library locations will follow, a representative for the company says. Chicago’s cafe is next, then Dallas, where another Virgin Hotels location is the works.

Laughing Man Coffee serves Fair-Trade certified coffees like Colombia Huila, a dark roast from Colombia, and Dukale’s Blend, a medium roast from Africa and Indonesia. The brand bears Hugh Jackman’s imprimatur, and supports coffee farming communities with programs like access to higher education and housing improvements. But overall, it’s owned by Keurig, so if a trip to Funny Library is out of the question, it’s available in K-Cups.

Funny Library is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
