Giving hell to Tahoe

British chef and TV insult comic Gordon Ramsay is opening a third location of his Hell’s Kitchen restaurant in south Lake Tahoe. The restaurant is coming to Harvey’s South Lake, a Caesar’s-owned hotel just over the border into Nevada in the town of Stateline. They’ll renovate the dining room, which features original log beams dating to the ‘40s, and open with dishes like beef Wellington in time for ski season, the Mercury News reports.

Garibaldi’s restaurant turns 30

Neighborhood dining favorite Garibaldi’s is feting its 30th year in Pac Heights. Owners Cate Mason and chef Douglas Borkowski are sticking to the 30-year theme with an anniversary menu served during the month of September: $30 for three courses, with dishes like wild mushroom risotto and chocolate budino for dessert.

Yosemite Park concessionaire in trouble

Behind the scenes, Yosemite National Park is chewing out Aramark, the company behind its food, hotels, and shuttles. Internal reviews of the company’s performance, obtained by the Chronicle through the Freedom of Information Act, show visitors are fuming over a lack of shuttles, and rating their satisfaction less than 50 percent with food service at a newly renovated Base Camp Eatery and a restaurant called Degnan’s Kitchen.

Oakland artist reimagining urban development with community-focus

Oakland artist and organizer Binta Ayofemi is working on an ambitious trio of projects called Ground in West Oakland, Uptown, and East Oakland, the Chronicle reports. In West Oakland, she’s opening something called Guild, a wood furniture company with apprenticeships and a tea room next to Japanese restaurant Soba Ichi. In Uptown, she’s opening a place called Commons in a long-vacant building, a cafe and performance space. And in East Oakland, she’s working on Soul, which will offer cooking and gardening classes.
