Nothing against all those birds, but 12 days of caviar might be a cooler way to countdown to Christmas.

With Hanukkah starting this week and the days swiftly ticking down until Christmas, we’re officially in the throes of the most wonderful (and, in many cases, most busy) time of the year. For some, that means spending many hours and countless dollars procuring gifts for friends and family. But it’s never too late or too early — looking at you, Christmas Eve mallgoers — to buy yourself a little something special, too. And for that, San Francisco’s the Caviar Co. has a holiday gift set that’ll give a big, luxurious boost to your December.

Now through December 31, the company sells a 12 Days of Caviar collection ($750), which includes one-ounce tins of a dozen different kinds of caviar and roe, two caviar spoons, a tin key, and a recipe book. With 12 varieties of caviar and roe including imperial golden osetra caviar, royal white sturgeon caviar, smoked trout roe, and whitefish roe, the set includes more than enough caviar to celebrate each night of Hanukkah or to count down the last dozen days until Christmas, the company notes.

If you or the very lucky gift recipient you might have in mind for this set isn’t already an at-home caviar aficionado, never fear. The collection includes a pair of those delicate mother-of-pearl caviar spoons, lest anyone’s feathers get ruffled by plastic spoons during caviar service, as well as a gold caviar tin key so you can pop each lid like a pro. The whole set also comes in a festive red box, with each of the 12 tins in a separate mini drawer — think food-filled advent calendar, but make it extremely fancy. The whole box can slide right into the fridge, the company suggests.

Plus, the collection comes with a book that includes caviar recipes from a dozen top chefs from the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. For example, chef Mike Lanham from Anomaly in San Francisco shares a recipe for caviar challah French toast, Bar Sprezzatura chef Joseph Offner shares a recipe for burrata with tomato jam and caviar, and Hi Neighbor Hospitality Group’s Jason Halverson includes a recipe for the Vault Steakhouse’s caviar-topped potato pavé tots. Other featured chefs include Bonnie Morales from Kachka in Portland, Ki Chung from Bar Maze in Honolulu, and Maple & Ash executive chef Austin Adler.

Orders for the 12 Days of Caviar collection can be placed on the Caviar Co. website. Upon purchase, customers can select a desired ship date. The set is available through December 31, 2023.
