Maybe it's our love of food, our bon vivant attitude, or one too many viewings of Midnight in Paris, but San Franciscans seem to feel a special kinship with the French, and our restaurants tend to pack an above-average quotient of festivities for Bastille Day, which goes down this Sunday. We picked 12 of the best places in SF and Oakland to enjoy the festivities, from roaring '20s cocktail parties to fancy prix-fixe dinners to food-truck blowouts with animated French movies. Vive la France!

All of Belden Place's eateries are participating in a French-themed block party on Sunday from 4 pm onward, with restaurants offering food and drink specials, live music, and DJs.

This French spot is launching brunch on Bastille Day, with items like brioche perdu with fruit and smoked lamb carpaccio. Everyone gets a free seasonal bellini on opening day, too. It runs from 10:30 am-2:30 pm.

RN74 is thinking ahead by holding its Bastille Day festivities on Friday, with the happy hour menu served all night long, performances by aerialists, and a roaring '20s costume contest to win dinner for two at the restaurant.

Grand Cafe is offering a menu where you can select any two items for $17.89 (the year the Bastille was stormed). Options include choucroute, shrimp and piperade stew, frog legs, oxtail terrine, and ratatouille-stuffed summer squash. Wear a beret or mustache (fake or real), and get a free glass of Lillet.

Chez Papa's Potrero Hill flagship is offering a $40 three-course prix fixe on Sunday, with entree options like sauteed black cod, bouillabaisse, duck confit, or lamb daube. They're open from 5:30-10 pm.

Dogpatch WineWorks

Put the "dog" back in Dogpatch by attending the Vive Le Pug party, a benefit for pug rescue organizations. They'll have wine, food, and a Les Miserables-themed pug costume contest, which will probably be amazing. Sunday from 3-6 pm; tickets here.
