As noted at the beginning of the pandemic, the city’s local farmers’ markets never shut down as essential businesses, and remain a safe option to shop in the open air. Many stay open year round, although a few close down in the winter. But all tend to shake off the chill and get bigger and better in the spring, with more vendors and fresh options, starting with those first shoots of asparagus that break ground surprisingly early, and swinging into the full array with sweet strawberries as days get longer.
