Grand Opening is a regular weekly pop-up at Mister Jiu’s in Chinatown, where the star menu item is the burnt honey pie, with wild honey in the custard, beeswax cream swishes on top, and a sprinkle of fennel pollen. Pietisserie had to shut down its storefront during the pandemic, but baker Jaynelle St Jean is still producing her aesthetic and delicious pies, which are available for pickup at numerous locations in the Bay Area, as well as though nationwide shipping. The raspberry chocolate and pumpkin chocolate pies are particularly striking, with that nearly black dark chocolate crust. Herringbone lattice tops and ultraviolet ube are also so cool, and the citrus custards sing out particularly creamy and tart.
