Long before app-based food delivery became our default way of experiencing restaurants, delivery pizza has been a touchstone of the local dining scene — a bit of cheesy, well-blistered luxury that anyone with a phone or an internet connection could access without having to leave the comfort of their couch. So it’s no surprise that most of the city’s premier delivery spots are still going strong during the coronavirus shutdown, joined by a handful of East Coast style slice shops and Neapolitan joints that used to require an in-person visit.

Here, then, are 16 SF spots that will deliver a great pizza to your doorstep.

The Pizza Place on Noriega

This beach-adjacent Outer Sunset spot is known for its huge (20 inches for the large), East Coast-inspired pies and its laid-back vibe. It’s now offering delivery via Grubhub, though call-in customers have access to other fun options like a DIY pizza kit. Vegan and gluten-free options are also available.

Fiorella Clement

Both the Richmond and Polk Street locations are serving Fiorella’s thin-crust, Neapolitan-style pies, baked in the restaurant’s wood-fire ovens, for both takeout and delivery via 3rd-party apps. The restaurant will also deliver build-your-own-pizza kits (for two or four people), a spritz cocktail kit, and other adult beverage options.

One of the city’s better spots for that classic wood-fire-charred, tender-in-the-middle Neapolitan style of pizza, A16 is open 4–7 p.m. daily for takeout and delivery at both its Marina and Oakland locations. Order delivery via Caviar. The “bottle and a box” combo, which comes with a bottle of wine and a pizza of your choice for $25, makes for an especially compelling to-go option.

Little Star Pizza

Arguably the king of Chicago-style deep dish pizza in San Francisco, Little Star’s ovens are on at its Albany, Mission District, and original Divisadero Street locations. Get your cornmeal-crusted beauty delivered via Doordash (Sunday–Thursday only) or Postmates.

Pizzeria Delfina

While sister restaurant Locanda has permanently closed, the Pizzeria Delfina mini-empire is still going strong, with locations in Pac Heights and the Mission open for takeout and delivery (along with its two Peninsula spots in Burlingame and Palo Alto). The crust here is well charred and puffy on the edges, and those in the know make sure to grab an order of meatballs too. Delivery is available via several of the 3rd-party apps.

Gioia Pizzeria

Gioia has built up a loyal following for its East Coast style pies, which it occasionally gussies up with decidedly West Coast toppings (there’s one covered with kale, naturally). Both its Hayes Valley and Berkeley locations are doing delivery via Caviar.

Zante Pizza & Indian Cuisine

Zante is the city’s standard bearer for Indian pizza, a truly wonderful thing if you haven’t yet experienced it. The classic chicken masala — perhaps the most iconic offering in the landscape of Indian pizzas — is probably the most popular pick, but even the most basic options come loaded with spinach, eggplant, cauliflower, ginger, and garlic, and other good stuff. Delivery is available via apps like Grubhub and Seamless.

Arinell Pizza

Known for its huge, greasy, New York-style slices, Arinell is currently doing delivery via DoorDash.

Firepie

Even before the coronavirus shutdown, this Mission-based wood-fire pizza trailer was known for its promise of quick delivery — usually within 15 minutes. The menu is short and sweet, with just three basic pies, plus a limited-edition birria pizza that it makes in collaboration with Mission quesabirria sensation Tacos El Patrón. Order online or via Firepie’s own app.
