It's a little further South, but perhaps it's just what a weary traveler needs after a long flight into SFO. Head straight over to the Apple Fritter for a classic "Luther," which is apparently what doughnut burgers are called. This version has a grilled, glazed doughnut bun, Niman ranch beef patty, melted American cheese and bacon. Classic, heart-stopping American food.

At the end of a rich, meaty, burger-filled meal it's probably time for something light. Or perhaps it's time to order the Nutella burger, a dessert version of the doughnut burger. It's got a nutella ganache and passion fruit-mango geleé with strawberries and kiwis, surrounded by sweet, sugary doughnut. At least there's fruit?

So, despite the name, serves their decadent burger on a waffle instead of a doughnut. The burger is pretty straightforward, simply switching out a typical bun for a fluffy, crispy waffle.

Little Griddle's Lucifer burger is a straightforward version of the doughnut burger, sandwiching an all-beef patty with American cheese and bacon between glazed doughnuts. Sugary, beefy and bacony, all in one.

The carnival-themed menu at Straw is not for the faint of heart (seriously, don't eat this if you have heart problems), but it is whimsical in all the right ways. Their Ringmaster burger is a beef patty between two glazed donuts with cheddar and jack cheese. Feel free to add bacon, avocado, a fried egg, or even another patty.
