To mark the new year, it's time to update the Eater 38, your answer and ours to any question that begins, “Can you recommend a restaurant?” This highly elite group covers the entire city, spans myriad cuisines and collectively, satisfies all of your restaurant needs, save for those occasions when you absolutely must spend half a paycheck. Every month or so, we'll be adding pertinent restaurants that were omitted, have newly become eligible (restaurants must be open at least six months to qualify for inclusion), or have stepped up their game.
This month, after reflecting upon the usual holiday dining out adventures and poring over reader emails and comments, we're dropping the shuttered Laiola for obvious reasons, plus Zazie and Turtle Tower. That's the bad news. The happy wonderful news is the triumvirate of newcomers to the Eater 38: Loretta Keller's Coco500, Russian Hill tapas standby Zarzuela and the Richmond's eclectic Japanese joint Halu. Welcome to the show, kiddos.
Are you shaking your fist in hellbent fury because you think your favorite restaurant deserves to be on the list? Has one of the below spots slipped and needs to be dropped? Put down the fist and simply state your case in the comments or drop us a line.
