The Eater SF Hangover Guide

Slay that headache, regret nothing

View as Map

Here are a bunch of hangover cures from all over the city, curated by Eater editors. This map includes breakfast sandwiches, Bloody marys, fried chicken, green juice, and several more hangover helpers that are worth a shot. All of these cures are more fun than drinking water, popping some vitamin B, and going to sleep.

Beachside Cafe

Beachside owner-shash-surfer Patrick Maguire knows the importance of a hearty breakfast (how else could you brave those powerful Nor-Cal waves?). Enter: the Beachside breakfast burrito. The thing is sizeable- grilled with fluffy scrambled Petaluma eggs, house salsa, melted cheese, homemade sausage, and bacon. Both meats! Why choose?

Devil's Teeth Baking Company

Devil's Teeth, in Outer Sunset, has buttermilk biscuits that are unimaginably flaky and golden brown. This is the base for their breakfast sandwich, filled with fluffy scrambled eggs, extra thick bacon, and melty cheddar cheese. It is soft and simple, and exactly the item you crave first thing.

Tipsy Pig

Do yourself a favor and order some mac 'n cheese at Tipsy. Not only do they use four different kinds of cheeses (white cheddar, Gouda, Shropshire blue, and Parmesan, to be exact), but they start their cheese sauce with bacon fat. Naturally, they sprinkle more bacon on at the end. It should be just the thing to cure your malaise. But if not, at least you'll be fat and happy.

The Plant

Enzyme-rich wheatgrass is a good starting point for post-party cleansing at Plant Cafe. Then move to the fresh-squeezed immune builder juice (carrot, apple, ginger, lemon) or body cleanser (carrot, apple, celery, lemon), whichever speaks to last night's activities more.

Fraiche Yogurt

It's Fraiche to the rescue when all you can stomach is a little fro-yo. Get the natural yogurt, made in-house, with homemade strawberry-rhubarb puree that plays sweet and tart, and top it in toasted crunchy granola. After you've had a bite, your morning just might start to turn around.

Zeitgeist

Watch the pour in your Bloody Mary here and you'll wonder how they go down so deceptively smooth. It probably has something to do with the delightfully spicy Worcestershire concoction at the bottom of the glass, or perhaps the meal you eat along with it, in the form of pickled green beans and olives. Either way, a couple of these will shape you up in no time.

Taqueria Cancun

Try a carnitas burrito at Taqueria Cancun, stuffed thick with crisped carnitas fried to order. Get it "Mojado" style, doused in enchilada sauce, melted cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. This burrito's girth and spice should be everything you need to kick a hangover to the curb.

Turtle Tower Restaurant

Turtle Tower's Northern-Vietnamese style pho ga is filled with free range chicken swimming in wide rice noodles and hearty chicken broth. It is mild enough that even the most upset of stomachs can handle it. Or, give it a healthy squirt of sriracha and a few jalapenos and sweat that damn hangover out.

Gallardo's

Menudo is famous for its hangover-slaying, rejuvenating capabilities. Get a quality bowl at this Mission staple — or if spicy tripe soup isn’t really your thing, the birria and pozole would serve you well, too.

Tartine Manufactory

Leave it to Tartine to develop a rich, meaty bone broth that is all but guaranteed to cure what ails you — head-piercing hangover included. The current version is ramped up with turmeric juice for even more feel-good medicinal properties.

Comstock Saloon

It’s hard to go wrong with brunch at Comstock Saloon, but the breakfast poutine particularly appeals after a long night. It’s definitely not traditional, but the fries loaded with scrambled eggs, cheddar, Sichuan pepper gravy, and sausage will prime you for a much-deserved afternoon nap.

Little Skillet

Enjoy Little Skillet's fried chicken and waffles to-go in the fresh air by the loading dock for a couple of reasons. For one, fried chicken and waffles is proven to cure hangovers, and for two, because sitting in a restaurant is for people who look far less hungover than you. Once you've soaked up last night's booze, you can stumble over to point #4 and start the cycle all over again with a good day drinking session.
